Bill and his brother John grew up at Paradise Mill. Bill lost an arm in the mill. He went on to run the mill at Isle Brewers and was recorded singing by Cecil Sharp in 1904.

See photographs in Places. Mrs Mears ran the Post Office at Hilbourne House and later Laburnum House on the Green, with her daughter, who later married Percy Hunt, a travelling salesman. Their Post Office and shop on the Green became known as Hunt’s.

She taught at High Ham School in the 1940’s (and maybe in the 30’s and 50’s).
She lived with her sister Emily at The Lodge, High Ham.
They were both Ned Sherrin’s aunts.
